Housewarming Invitation And Bible Verses

Waran

Deep Magic - Old Forest

Diaczenko Marina and Sergei, a prolific and talented duo of marriage and writing in Russia, in this book, unfortunately, failed to fully realize its potential. It is not without blame here are the publisher: advertising book as comparable to "sorcerer of the archipelago," Ursula LeGuin is a very risky surgery. Many readers will certainly buy such a position (like the undersigned), but the guest book will be more severe: I really like the classic work of American women, whether it matched? Unfortunately, not matched by a comparison of these novels does not make much sense. 'The Wizard' is a classic Bildungsroman while Waran is rather a conglomeration of episodes of restless włóczykiju stubbornly seeking a maniac extremely difficult to find people.

World, Waran who travels, first as a young boy, then as a man in the prime of life, is certainly a strange and colorful. Diaczenkom in no way be denied the imagination. Empire, whose power is based on the nearly impossible to forge a magic money, carnivorous, forests, giant birds flying team to carriages and sea snakes, assimilated the tourist rides, all ideas are fresh and well served.

But I do not quite know why this color is used, since the same main character is a colorless to pain. It is this lack of color A monitor is the primary shortcoming of the novel. We do not know reasons for abandoning his beloved, and what makes him a mysterious race called pramaga potter. Or rather, like the reasons we know, but the spiritual transformation which is subject to our Waran and his motivations are unconvincing. In addition, the culminating point is not surprising novel. Any attentive reader as already guess the middle of the book, who is that potter, which was so fiercely chasing a hero, and where to find him. It is so "Waran" just an average successful czytadłem and nothing more. Someone who wants to learn more about writing Diaczenków in achieving their best works really high level of literary, may reach the rather worrying "time witches" and "Waran" treat them as read to pass the time in public transport.

How we assess?

For the convenience of their own and Readers, we have created a system of assessment of such a blog books, comics and films. The first category of evaluation is story. We will try to assess to what extent it is consistent and logical, if one of the key events do not happen to be lurking jakoweś Deus ex machina whether the characters are characters of flesh and blood and the world created by author allows for "voluntary suspension of disbelief." For the evaluation of the story, came up with the scale of five:

5 - a masterpiece of narrative
4 - a good job
3 - average
2 - on the edge of the probability
1 - concave bottom with a hole

After some discussion we decided to establish a separate category for Style . We know from experience that sometimes a book about a fascinating story, written very best style and vice versa. Style will be assessed as:

5 - sorcerer words
4 - moments charms
3 - correct
2 - grinds
1 - needed tutoring

third category, which we take into account when assessing the story, called Deep Magic. The name comes from the "Chronicles Narnijskich" CS Lewis. This magic is in the same world of Aslan, the Christ in the world of God's law. In assessing the Deep Magic , we want to best of our abilities to show how much the story is similar to the True Myth. To what extent can bring us closer to the Gospel. I have also seen that in this case we give up the digital scale. As a category borrowed from the saga of Lewis This we felt it right that the sign zapożyczymy scale of the works of another inkling:

Valinor : Highest rating, we will grant these stories, through which the Gospel radiates unfading glow straight to our hearts.

Rivendell, "last-friendly house," the sign of all these stories that are most consistent with the real myth, but for some reason is not the end it will be classified as Christian fiction.

Old Forest: Tales of the term marked by We present a vision of an alien to Christianity, although, as in the Old Forest hobbits meet Tom Bombadil and Golden Berry, so in these books, you can find good items.

Mordor : Yes we mean books that quench the spirit, presenting a corrupt spirituality, reaching from the Dark Lord.

ratings in this category is the most sensitive issue. Probably not avoid controversy. Especially if it will go on the books described as "Old Forest" and "Rivendell". But in the end we are not omniscient.

odyssey that is Christian and fro

Among the many books on contemporary Christian spirituality can select those started by John Eldredge. Its aim is to help those who do not reach to discover its true nature and to establish an intimate relationship with God. But Eldredge did not typically operates rhetoric used in these types of publications. Often links to popular novels and films such as "The Chronicles of Narnia," "Lord of the Rings," "Braveheart," "The Matrix" and "Gladiator." Already the titles of his books are something that distinguishes them-"The Wild Heart," "enchanting," "The Wild Heart. Terms of the battlefield "," Wake the dead ". Here I must make note concern ing the translations. "The Wild Heart. Terms of the battlefield "is the Polish translation of" The Wild Heart. Exercise in the road "and" Wake the Dead "is the" fullness of heart. " On various grounds, that made translation of these titles is such and not another, I suspect that it played an important role Here a kind of "Christian political correctness." According to this thinking books on spirituality should not use too strong vocabulary, and certainly not by military terms. Meanwhile, Eldredge vision firmly based on Scripture is very definitely a war. As he aptly described, this world is not a world of "Seinfeld," but the world of "Saving Private Ryan." Participate in it in the war, which God gave Satan. Fighting for our hearts. Reading the "charming" or "wild heart" we have a chance to understand themselves and their place in the greatest drama. We can also understand why we ourselves or someone you know turns in your Christian life reading fiction.

To understand ourselves and what happens to us by Eldredge we look at the world differently. We should see him with his heart. ("[Let da] you enlightened the eyes of the heart" - Eph 1:18) And an indispensable aid in this story are mythical. The author himself, "Full of heart," but notes that operate such a modern understanding of the myths that identifies it with something false. This approach has its origins in the early history of the Church. When the Good News of Jesus Christ began to spread around the world have to stand in opposition to other religions, which are handling the myths as their sacred stories. The apostles and their successors wanting to give people the truth and save them for the love they had shown that "all the gods are only an illusion" (PS 96, 5). Mythologies have to give way before the Gospel. Another factor that makes believe "mythical" considered synonymous with "false" is a progressive secularization and the associated cult of reason. This in turn creates an illusion of reality, which closes us on the fundamental dimensions of our lives. Eldredge claims that myths can help us get out of this trap.

But how they can be helpful for the followers of Christ? At the beginning we have to look at them differently. Eldredge cites the definition of myth Professor Rolland Hein: "Myths are primarily stories: stories that bring us to something transcendent and eternal, (...) means by which the eternal, is expressed in time. "They refer to something very deep in our nature. Describe our longings and fears. They are trying to tell us the truth about reality. So, the myth in this sense becomes a way of looking at the world and the role of man in it. With such an approach can odkryć three eternal truths- not everything is as it seems to us, in this world a battle was fought, we are in it to play an important role. Knowing these truths opens man to the voice of God that it will lead.

At this point we can say that Eldredge is approaching in their deliberations to the philosophy of myth, which presented Inklingowie. According to these myths are not beautiful zmyśleniami, but a reflection of the eternal Truth. In imperfectly due to the frailties of human nature is said that only God is fully expressed. The whole biblical story, especially the life of Jesus of Nazareth, was according to Tolkien and his friends, the real myth. Like a man used the poetry of history, so God has made poetry. This philosophy myth has become one of the main impulses that contributed to the conversion of CS Lewis. He later used it to create "Stories Narnijskie. But its most perfect expression of creativity is JRRTolkien. Anyway, he did not intend to write any fantasy, but tried to revive the old Anglo-Saxon tradition of brutally interrupted by the invasion of William the Conqueror.

myth, so is a poetic story of a journey that every human life, of the fighting, which during the roll and the purpose of pursued. It may happen that we will focus on its outer beauty, which will lead us astray. However, while we enter into the most perfect voice to hear the Bard, which will reveal to us the divine mysteries. To paraphrase, we can say that the mythologies are służkami Gospel.

contemporary fiction which is the successor of the old stories can perform the same role. It can seduce us with his charm and for its own sake can be a bridge through which we enter into the Kingdom of Life. Selection always makes the road in the heart as a writer and reader.

Christianity against science fiction

how to get started from a small objection: not everyone likes to read books and certainly not everyone likes to read fiction. This blog was created for those who not only enjoy such literature, but also try to read it not in isolation and in relation to their faith.
Let's start with a simple definition. Science fiction is a genre invented by creative assuming the author actually using more specific literary resources. Among these measures are:

1 / attributing human traits are not human beings (as in classic fairy tales),
2 / giving wonderful characteristics and skills of human beings or other intelligent beings,
3 / create a fairy tale by the author rekwizytorium (magic items), and bestiary ( the essence of magic, mythical, etc.).

I think that this definition also includes fiction, if the word "magically" replace the "unimaginably advanced future technology."
It follows that the fantasy can include both Gilgamesh, the Odyssey, and Aeneid Aesop's fables and fairy-tales, stories about Moomins, Lewis and Tolkien's novels, or series of books about Harry Potter. Fantasy elements we find in the Bible: giants (Gen.), neck (Dn) sea monster (Ps, Iz), dragon (Ps, Iz), oblekające bones in flesh (Ezekiel), saying the trees (Judges). From Gilgamesh onwards until you see the realistic novel in the late eighteenth century, well over half of world literature was fantastic. Why? I see two reasons. First person is, as defined by Tolkien's "sub-creator." It is need, probably implanted them by the Creator, the creation of different things, including the amazing worlds and stories. Secondly, people are always asking themselves questions about the mysteries of life and death, and hence the need for a story about the unusual setting, allowing to look at reality from an unusual perspective. This brings us to the next point, namely the question whether there is any - in addition to providing entertainment - the purpose of creating fantastic literature?
I see at least two of these objectives, showing not only the specificity of science fiction, but even at her "superiority" to the literary mainstream of the last two centuries. Science fiction is a real workshop ideas. Fantasist has so used literary genre in its measures, the unique opportunity to test ideas and their consequences in a way unavailable mainstream writers. An example of "Travel Gulliwera" whose hero gets different views of the problem of power, while once giant dwarfs in the country, another time midget in the country of giants, or "The Left Hand of Darkness" by Ursula Le Guin, intriguing study of gender issues. Showing a familiar aspect of reality in a distorting mirror to show the fantasist has readers of what every day escapes their attention. So it is genre fiction for the reader thinking and concerned world.
fiction can also, like prophecies, show hidden, but also a true shape of reality. Michael O'Brien writes, "Writing is able to shape the fantastic things unseen, take them into forms that facilitate their understanding." It achieves this by using unusual names, situations and props. What is unusual, it attracts our attention in a way unavailable realistic literature. Voluntarily suspending disbelief enter the world created by the author, in order to better understand the truth about our own world.
this hidden asset and also the Achilles heel of fiction. If the author does not have much to say, fantastic work is usually unproductive, and sometimes even dangerous pastime. This is particularly true of an important and controversial element of fantasy, which is magic. One thing we know for sure: in our world, it is a source, demonic. We believe as Christians that magic abilities, such as teleportation, lighting of the fire, the materialization of objects, visualization can take place only through support of the demonic. We know also that in the Bible the word "magician" refers to both the occult history of Simon Magus of Acts, and the Persian wise men who came to worship the Savior unborn. Words such as "miracle" and "mark" refer to the Bible, both actions committed in the name of the Lord Jesus and the power of Satan. The miracles done by Moses before the Pharaoh, were "magic", but their source was a divine power. The book of Daniel tells us that this God-fearing young man was a ruler of the Jewish Babylonian magicians:
is in your kingdom a man with the spirit of the holy gods. Back to the time your father was discovered in the special light of the mind, reason and wisdom equal to the wisdom of the gods. Your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, made him superior to all the enchanters, the Chaldeans, interpreters of dreams and sages. As is this Daniel, whom the king also called Belteshazzar, found special light of the spirit, knowledge, wisdom and ability to translate dreams, guessing puzzles and solving various problems, send so after Daniel, and he will tell you what the words mean (Daniel 5:11-12)
So in light of Scripture can not be fully distinguish between a "miracle" of God and "magic" of Satan. The real difference is not to grasp with the vocabulary, it lies in another area. It is the source - good or bad - an unusual event which is the power pozaludzka mover.
This brings us to the question of the use of magic in fantasy literature. Magic in literature serves, which gives the author: allegorical, allusive, forming a color wykreowanego world. Is an important goal, fundamental elements of the author, who goes after this and no other means of expression, it is not so much the existence of magic in the story as its literary use. Otherwise, we would have to condemn the Cinderella fairy for being turned into a pumpkin in your quads. May be helpful here to distinguish the following:

- good literary magic is an action which reflects both the moral order wykreowanego world and the moral order of our reality. This is precisely the magic of the present Prince Caspian narnijskich stories, blowing the horn, which once received from Aslan, the son of Lord Behind the Sea, Queen Lucy. That the use of magic item is the de facto calling asking for providential assistance to the King of the Sea and Behind the aid is actually coming. A similar "good magic" Lily Potter also grown, giving the victim's life for her son and giving him the same "magic" spell of protection against murderous sorcerer Voldemort.

- black magic in the magic of literature "Conquered", appropriated, is an attempt to capture power, which does not correspond to the nature of man or other fairy-tale hero (no matter whether it is a dwarf, hobbit or a centaur, it really tells a story is always about people.) Presents it in the same novel by Lewis dwarf Nikabrik, trying to summon a demon to help, the White Witch Jadis, cultivate it Sauron and Voldemort too, hiding their souls in magical objects.
Such a distinction is deeply Christian character. At the end of the first occultist was Satan, who tried to "get" the power of God, while the deeds of the Lord Jesus during his earthly kenosis are made from a power which he holds as the only-begotten Son of God.
fiction is a powerful, imposing on those who have not reach, special duties. Fantasist can create the most bizarre worlds, full of magic, superhuman heroes and monsters, however, should not create worlds of superhuman (superhuman?) And monstrous morality. Put simply, a writer who redefines good and evil at its own whim abuse given to him by God gift of sub-creation. On this blog we will try to write about the literature of fantasy, taking it into account.
